The Matthew record of the commission in some degree embraces the thrust of the other three. It begins with the declaration of Christ, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Matt. 28:18). What He asserts here, of course, is implied in the authoritative way disciples are sent forth as well as in the message given them to preach.
